What Are Gen Z Slang Terms?

Gen Z slang terms are informal, creative expressions Generation Z uses to communicate in a fun, relatable way. Often born from social media trends and pop culture, these terms reflect Gen Z’s humor, individuality, and digital-native mindset.

In this article, I’ll share some Gen Z terms I’ve come across that I find “Lowkey” funny. Let’s dive in!

Meaning: A playful way to describe something or someone as very small and adorable.

Example: That smol kitten fits perfectly in my hand—so cute!

Delulu

Meaning: Delusional, often used humorously to describe someone with unrealistic or overly optimistic beliefs.

Example: She’s so delulu thinking she’ll marry her celebrity crush someday!

Solulu

Meaning: A slang term for “solution,” often used in the phrase “delulu is the solulu.” This Gen Z catchphrase suggests that self-confidence (even if slightly delusional) is the key to achieving dreams.

Example: Feeling stuck? Just remember, delulu is the solulu—dream big and go for it!

Periodt

Meaning: An interjection used to emphasize a point or to signal that a discussion is over. It used to stress that a statement is final and undeniable.

Example: This outfit is the best choice for the party, periodt!

Immaculate

Meaning: Used to describe something as flawless, perfect, or extremely impressive.

Example: Her makeup today is absolutely immaculate—she looks stunning!

Besties

Meaning: Close friends; often used casually to refer to someone, even if you’re not actually close.

Example: “What’s up, besties?”

Grind

Meaning: Hard work or hustle, especially when striving for goals.

Example: I can’t hang out tonight—I’m on my grind preparing for finals.

No cap

Meaning: No lie; it’s the truth.

Example:  That was the best movie ever, no cap.

Skibidi

Meaning: A term popularized by the absurd “Skibidi Toilet” meme or the viral dance associated with it, often used to refer to something goofy, chaotic, or part of the trend.

Example: Have you seen that skibidi dance on TikTok? It’s so weird but hilarious!

Glow up

Meaning: A significant transformation for the better, often in appearance, confidence, or overall lifestyle.

Example: She had a major glow-up after high school.

Bussin

Meaning: Very good, amazing, or delicious, often used to describe food.

Example: This pizza is bussin!

Asf

Meaning: Short for As fu*k, used to emphasize the intensity of something.

Example: It’s cold asf outside—I should’ve worn a thicker jacket!

Bruh

Meaning: A casual term for a male friend, often used humorously or to express disbelief or frustration.

Example: Bruh, did you seriously forget your keys again?

IYKYK

Meaning: Stands for “If You Know, You Know,” used to hint at an inside joke or shared experience that only certain people will understand.

Example: That party last night was wild… iykyk.

Karen

Meaning: A slang term often used to describe a middle-class white woman perceived as entitled, overly demanding, or inclined to complain, especially in service or retail settings.
