What is Feng Shui
Feng Shui (风水), literally “Wind & Water,” is an ancient Chinese practice that studies the relationship between people and their environment to create harmony and balance. It focuses on the flow of Qi (energy) and how natural elements, directions, and spatial arrangements influence health, wealth, and well-being.
Feng Shui refers to the larger environment, the external surroundings, the state of energy, and the overall impact during energy transitions.
What is the 8 Trigrams (八卦)
The 8 Trigrams (八卦) are fundamental symbols in Chinese metaphysics, originating from the I Ching. Each trigram consists of three lines, which can be either broken (yin) or solid (yang), representing the duality of nature.
Understanding 九运 (Jiu Yun) – The 9th Period
The 9th Period, or 九运 (Jiu Yun), spans from 2024 to 2043 and represents a pivotal era in Feng Shui and Chinese metaphysics. Each “运” (cycle) lasts for 20 years, forming a total of nine major cycles.
The 9th Period is governed by the Li Trigram (离卦), which corresponds to the Fire element in the Five Elements theory.
In simple terms, 九运 = 离卦 = 属火. The associated direction for this period is the South 南方位, making it a time heavily influenced by the characteristics of Fire energy.
About Fire Element
Fire, as symbolized by the Li Trigram, is outwardly bright and attention-grabbing, yet inherently intangible and elusive. It radiates light and heat, representing visibility and prominence, but it cannot be held or grasped.
This aligns with societal shifts during the 9th Period, where people increasingly value appearance, often equating beauty or charisma.
On a larger scale, industries, politics, and economies will feel the impact of Fire’s energy—highlighting innovation, fame, and transformations driven by light, heat, and allure, but also warning of superficiality and volatility.
What is the 5 Elements 五行
The Five Elements (五行, Wǔ Xíng) are a foundational concept in Chinese metaphysics, representing the cyclical forces that shape the universe. These elements are Wood (木), Fire (火), Earth (土), Metal (金), and Water (水), each symbolizing different aspects of nature, energy, and life processes.
They interact in two primary ways: the generative cycle 相生(e.g., Wood fuels Fire, Fire creates Earth) and the destructive cycle 相克 (e.g., Fire melts Metal, Metal cuts Wood).
The Five Elements are used in Feng Shui, Chinese medicine, and other metaphysical practices to analyze balance and harmonize environments for health, success, and prosperity.
Please don’t get confused about these Five Elements with Naruto’s 5 Elemental Chakra Releases, like the Fire Style 火遁, Water Style 水遁, or Earth Style Jutsu and there is no Wind and Lightning in 五行
(I hope you can understand my lame joke😭).
Not to mention Hyuga Neji‘s 8 Trigrams 64 Palms—probably Masashi Kishimoto is a Feng Shui enthusiast. 🤔

⚠️Disclaimer:
The predictions below are based on a compilation of insights from Feng Shui masters in Hong Kong, China, and Malaysia.
Which Industries/Businesses Will Thrive in the 9th Period?
The 9th Period (2024-2043) is predicted to bring significant growth to the following industries, shaped by the influence of the Li Trigram (Fire element):
1. Beauty and Aesthetics Industries
Businesses related to beauty, medical aesthetics, cosmetic surgery, posture correction (e.g., chiropractic care), spas, and interior design or decoration are expected to flourish. The emphasis on aesthetics will grow as people place more value on beauty and visual appeal.
2. High-Tech Industries
Industries associated with cutting-edge technologies like AI, the Internet, aerospace technology, electric vehicles, AR/VR, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies will see rapid development. Fire symbolizes speed and intangibility, making these fast-evolving and futuristic sectors especially prominent.
3. Mind-Body-Spirit Wellness Industries
Sectors focused on healing and wellness—such as metaphysics, yoga, meditation, psychological therapy, and even pet-related businesses—are set to expand, reflecting the rising importance of mental and emotional well-being.
4. Other Fire-Related Industries
Businesses linked to the Fire element, including F&B, renewable energy, and spotlight-driven industries like streaming platforms, influencers, personal branding, and social media, are likely to prosper too.
Additionally, the Li Trigram 离 represents distance, suggesting an evolution in communication methods, such as the growth of remote working and other long-distance operational models.
Industries Related to the other Elements
Earth Element Industries 土
2004–2023 八运 8th Period
Key industries: Real estate, livestock, construction, mining, and related fields.
Trends: During the 8th Period, Earth-related businesses thrived. However, as the Earth cycle ends, signs of decline are evident. Examples include the crises faced by major real estate developers like Evergrande and Country Garden, as well as large-scale stalled projects like Malaysia’s Forest City, symbolizing the retreat of Earth’s influence.
Metal Element Industries 金
1984–2003
- Key industries: Finance, securities investment, insurance, metals, automotive, transportation, and mechanical engineering.
- Trends: Metal-driven sectors peaked during this period. However, in the current Fire cycle (2024–2043), Fire overcomes Metal, posing challenges for industries still relying heavily on Metal energy.
Wood Element Industries 木
- Key industries: Agriculture, literature, arts, timber, book publishing, furniture, and fashion.
- Trends: Wood generates Fire, meaning Wood-related industries will indirectly benefit during the 9th Period (2024–2043).
Water Element Industries 水

- Trends: Water-related industries remain stable and essential.
The Rise of Women: An Era for Female Empowerment
中年女性崛起: 属于女性的时代
The 9th Period (Li Trigram) symbolizes the rise of middle-aged women (ages 30-50+), marking an era where women take center stage. This is expected to be the most prosperous time for women, with increasing leadership roles in politics, entrepreneurship, startups, and as key players in consumer markets. Women’s status will continue to rise as they step into positions of power and influence.
Modern women are better educated, more financially independent, and confident in showcasing their beauty and individuality. Many industries will witness women shining brightly, with a growing number taking on managerial and leadership roles. Women, compared to men, often enjoy the advantage of appearance-based benefits ‘外貌红利’, with beauty continuing to open doors in certain opportunities.
Unlike previous eras, the digital age is uniquely supportive of female entrepreneurs. The Internet has created unprecedented opportunities for women to start businesses and lead in ways that were not possible before, making this truly a transformative time for female empowerment.
Li Trigram on Marriage
It is also worth noting that some Feng Shui masters associate the Li Trigram with separation.
In the 9th Period, the number of divorces is expected to rise, reflecting the growing challenges modern marriages face due to numerous temptations and distractions.
Many individuals today may find themselves unsuited for traditional marital commitments, leading to shifts in how relationships are perceived and navigated in this era.
A fascinating read to consider is Man Disconnected: How Technology Has Sabotaged What it Means to be a Man by Philip Zimbardo and Nikita Coulombe. The book highlights how men in many countries fall behind women in various areas.
In education, girls outperform boys at all levels, from elementary to graduate school, with boys being five times more likely to have ADHD. Employment patterns have also shifted—labor-intensive jobs once dominated by men in agriculture and industry are declining, replaced by technology and automation.
The book also explores social challenges, noting that men often lack the communication skills and emotional intelligence of women. Many are drawn into video games, online pornography, and other addictive behaviors, further impacting their ability to adapt to modern demands.
It’s a thought-provoking analysis of societal changes and their effects on men in today’s world.
Fun Myth: The Singapore $1 Coins' Design
A fascinating Feng Shui myth surrounds the design of Singapore’s $1 coin. Legend has it that the construction of MRT tunnels was said to disrupt the nation’s dragon vein—a symbolic representation of prosperity in Feng Shui tied to mountain ranges. Breaking the dragon vein was believed to bring bad Feng Shui and misfortune unless countered.
To address this, a renowned Feng Shui master allegedly suggested that every household in Singapore should have a Ba Gua (Eight Trigrams) to neutralize the effects. The myth claims this advice was secretly implemented through the design of the $1 coin, which incorporates Feng Shui elements. Some believe these coins played a role in securing Singapore’s success as a first-world nation.
Conclusion
For women, the 9th Period (九运) is a golden era to rise, lead, and shine in various fields. For men, it’s a call to adapt, work harder, and embrace new opportunities. Regardless of gender, the key takeaway remains: cultivate blessings and do good deeds—a timeless principle that fosters harmony and success for everyone.
